Swirl - Image 4

The Swirl from Freenotes Harmony Park is a commercial outdoor musical instrument that combines beautiful sound, interactive play, and sculptural design into one impressive outdoor feature. Its flowing arrangement of musical chimes creates a visually distinctive centerpiece while inviting children and adults to explore melody, rhythm, harmony, and creative musical expression.

At the center of the Swirl's musical experience are 26 resonated anodized aluminum chimes. One side is arranged in C Major Pentatonic, while the opposite side is arranged in A Minor Pentatonic. This dual-sided configuration gives users two different musical experiences within a single instrument and encourages exploration from both sides.

The chimes span alto and soprano ranges and produce bright, sustained tones. Because the notes are arranged using pentatonic scales, children and adults can experiment freely with different note combinations without needing previous musical training. This approachable design makes the Swirl particularly valuable for playgrounds and public spaces where users of many ages and musical abilities may interact with the instrument.

Two black mallets provide opportunities for individual or collaborative play. Children can experiment independently with melody and rhythm or play alongside another musician, encouraging listening, communication, creativity, and shared musical experiences.

The Swirl is also designed to make a strong visual impact. Floating musical note elements are incorporated into the back panel, turning the instrument into a double-sided outdoor sculpture even when it is not being played. Its combination of visual art and interactive sound makes it an excellent centerpiece for playgrounds, sensory gardens, outdoor classrooms, parks, and community gathering spaces.

Two-Sided Musical Experience

One of the most distinctive features of the Swirl is its two-sided musical design. The 26 chimes provide C Major Pentatonic notes on one side and A Minor Pentatonic notes on the other, allowing users to move around the instrument and experience two different musical personalities.

This configuration also creates opportunities for collaborative play. Two users can explore opposite sides of the Swirl, respond to one another's musical patterns, and experiment with how the two scales sound together.

Outdoor Musical & Sensory Play

The Swirl provides an intuitive way for children to experience music through movement, touch, and sound. Striking one of the anodized aluminum chimes produces an immediate resonating tone, helping children connect physical movement with auditory feedback.

The combination of visual, tactile, and auditory interaction makes the Swirl especially valuable for sensory-rich outdoor environments. Children can explore different notes, compare higher and lower sounds, experiment with rhythm, and create their own musical patterns at their own pace.

Sculptural Outdoor Design

The Swirl is more than an outdoor musical instrument—it also functions as an interactive piece of public art. Its flowing chime arrangement creates a dramatic visual shape, while routed floating musical notes on the back panel enhance the sculptural appearance from multiple viewing angles.

This artistic design makes the Swirl particularly well suited for spaces where organizations want playground and recreational equipment to complement the surrounding landscape, architecture, or community environment.

Commercial-Grade Design

The Swirl is engineered for outdoor commercial environments and frequent public use. Its musical components are constructed from resonated anodized aluminum, providing both outdoor durability and the bright, sustaining sound that defines the instrument.

The instrument can be configured with different mounting systems, including in-ground and surface-mount options, allowing organizations to select an installation method appropriate for their site.

Footer Options (Varies by Product)

In-Ground Mounting

This is the most common installation method for playground and shade structures. It involves digging holes and setting the posts directly into concrete that is poured during installation.

Surface Mount (Anchor Bolt)

With this method, posts are secured to an existing solid surface—typically concrete—using specialized base plates and anchor bolt hardware provided with the product.

Ground Spike

This is the simplest mounting option, using a sledgehammer to drive stakes through a footer plate to secure the posts in the desired location. Ground spikes are not recommended for sandy or loamy soil conditions and are only available for select product sets.

FAQs

What are the payment requirements for an order?

Full payment is typically required upfront due to the custom nature of many products. Exceptions can be made for governmental entities through approved purchase orders. All payments must be received prior to the start of installation.

Are installation services available?

Installation services are available for commercial playground projects. A qualified and insured professional can be arranged to handle the setup, and quotes are provided upon request. The goal is to ensure a smooth, safe, and efficient installation process from start to finish.

Is expedited shipping an option for my order?

Expedited shipping is not currently available. Due to the size and nature of playground LTL shipments, most freight carriers are unable to guarantee faster delivery. Unless otherwise noted, all products ship according to the estimated lead times listed on each product page.

How is the estimated lead time calculated?

Estimated lead time refers to the amount of time it typically takes for a product to be prepared and shipped after an order is placed. For many commercial playground items, manufacturing begins only once the order is received. For example, if the lead time is listed as 8 to 10 weeks, that means it will take approximately8 to 10 weeks for the product to be manufactured, packaged, and shipped from the warehouse.
